HTX Roadtrip

This weekend I visited my boyfriend, Henry, in Houston. A half-day at work and a 3.5 hour drive called for something put together yet comfortable. This turned out to be the perfect look, and the jacket was a staple of the weekend.

After I arrived in Houston, Henry and I headed to Alice Blue for dinner in the Heights. Good food and a cozy atmosphere – I definitely recommend. Saturday we rode in the best Soul Cycle class we’d taken and then proceeded to eat a Tiny’s chocolate chip cookie. The cookie negated the workout, but oh well, it was worth it. Saturday night we joined many Houstonians at Lights in the Heights – a stroll through a joyfully decorated neighborhood which included live bands and hot cocoa.

Houston, you’re growing on me.

Dorothy, is that you?

Mine don’t sparkle, but they sure are red.

I love this look because I mixed textures, colors and patterns. Clearly the red anchors the look while the neutrals keep the outfit simple yet interesting. I got these fun slides at Marshalls, but unfortunately, you can’t shop on their website. Checkout your closest Marshalls or TJ Maxx for amazing deals. I found the same shoe in burgundy, a great color for fall.

Cool It Culotte

I bought these culottes last summer in NYC, and my oh my how comfortable they are! And the elastic band is a game changer. I’ve paired them with a black cropped tank, they would also look cute with a white button down tied up or a blouse tucked in. I love the contrast of the burnt orange bomber, which adds a little drama but also keeps me warm in a freezing cold office.

I Like What I Do

I thoroughly enjoy getting dressed every morning before work. I suppose this means a couple of things: I like what I do, and well, I like what I do. To be honest, I’ve always enjoyed getting dressed each morning. Maybe not the mornings my mom made me wear tights to church, but every other. And, I like my new job. Working for Front Door Fashion has been a great transition into the real world, and I’ve loved styling each woman no matter her needs. Styling is my passion.

PS this top is old so I found a few great alternatives.

I’ve had this romper for awhile now, and I’m constantly trying to create new looks with it. Since it is a blank canvas, the pairing options are endless. I’ve worn the romper with a denim vest and adidas, wedges and chunky earrings and now with mule espadrilles and a neckerchief, among other things. Like I mentioned in Friday Finds a few weeks ago, be bold and try out the neckerchief.

I paired the jewels with two Tibi pieces, both of which have been on the blog before. Mixing and matching goes a long way when creating new outfits. You don’t always have to buy something new to feel like you’re wearing a new outfit.

Don’t forget to checkout Modern Memories Jewels!
