Quarantine Activities

I thought I would share some of the activities that have kept me busy while we’ve been stuck at home! It’s not often we don’t leave the house for weeks on end, so while we are staying put, let’s try new things, revisit old things and enjoy nature.

  1. Walks: I think this is one of my favorite activities, in and out of quarantine. There’s a 3.25 mile route I take often around my parent’s neighborhood when the weather is nice. I’ve realized how much I love being outside in the sunshine.
  2. New recipes: We’ve tried a few new recipes, and this includes the sangria recipe I shared last week. IMG_4102
  3. Puzzles: This is a great way to avoid screen time and get strategic and start thinking. I finally finished my 3rd puzzle – it was a doozy. Love this one, this one and this one. Screen Shot 2020-04-23 at 12.19.07 PM.png
  4. New workouts: My brother, Myatt, came up with a workout for my mom and I to follow, but I’ve also enjoyed doing the workouts that other bloggers have shared like Brighton Keller Butler and Mary Lawless Lee.
  5. Organization: I organized my closet in Dallas as well as parts of my parent’s house. It felt therapeutic to get rid of things we don’t need, and I even listed some pieces on Poshmark!
  6. Pinterest: Pinterest has been a source of inspiration for me! Whether that’s outfit inspo, home decor, workouts or organization. You can find just about anything here, and of course, it’s nice to look at pretty things.
  7. Podcasts: These are a great way to learn something new and keep up with the news, among other things. I like to listen to them on my walks. I went through a phase of listening to podcasts only on cold case files, but I listen to church sermons too – I’m a little all over the place! You can find podcasts on just about anything.
  8. Friendship bracelets: I used to make bracelets all the time as a kid, and thank goodness my parents didn’t throw away my string because I picked up the hobby again. I even sent some to my friends in hopes the bracelets would brighten their days. 5DBE60B2-89D4-4F0B-AF60-F8ECD12789E2.JPG
  9. Bike rides: My mom and I have taken a few bike rides, and it seems many of our neighbors have had the same idea too. It’s fun seeing our neighbors out and about enjoying the nice spring weather!
  10. Eating local: My family has ordered from many of our favorite local restaurants including Las Delicias, Paulettes and Ciao Bella. We are trying to support our local businesses as much as we can!
  11. Dominoes: Our grandparents gave us this set over 10 years ago, and we’ve brought it back out many times since the stay-at-home order started. I love that you can play a bunch of different games with this set, listed in the directions of course.
  12. New book: I purchased Little Fires Everywhere from a local Memphis bookstore, Novel, but you can also get it here. Can’t wait to see what all the hype is about! Screen Shot 2020-04-23 at 12.15.49 PM.png

I hope these ideas inspire you to do something different this week during quarantine!

Even though I’m not leaving the house much these days, I’ve enjoyed putting on a “real” clothes every now and then.

Hope you are staying safe! XO, MS

White Wine Sangria Recipe

IMG_4102

Want to make a tasty treat? I’m not a huge drinker, but I do enjoy a margarita or a glass of sangria, especially on a pretty day! Memphis has had some nice weather since I’ve been here, so my mom and I decided to have a little quarantine fun and enjoy some sangria on the screened porch. Check out the recipe we used below!

  1. 1/2 cup brandy
  2. 1/4 cup lemon juice
  3. 1/3 cup frozen lemonade concentrate
  4. 1/3 cup orange juice
  5. bottle of dry white wine (750 milliliter)
  6. 1/2 cup triple sec
  7. 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
  8. 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  9. 1 lime, sliced into rounds
  10. 1/4 cup white sugar (optional)
  11. 2 cups carbonated water (optional; makes drink less sweet)

Once you mix these ingredients in the pitcher, let them cool in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. You’ll be enjoying a glass in no time!

FYI: The recipe makes more than what is shown in the pitcher above. We had already had some by the time I took this photo, oops!

Target Round Up

Hi, friends! I hope you all had a happy Easter weekend! As you can imagine, things were pretty laid back around here. We’ve eaten lots of chocolate and had a delicious beef tenderloin supper. My brother, Myatt, has been leading us in daily workouts that I hope we continue, but Y’ALL I’m sore!

I wanted to share another round up with y’all today, and this time I’m highlighting Target – THE best! Everything is reasonably priced, and almost everything comes in a variety of colorways. Be sure to click the links below!

Hope you have a great week. XO, MS

Madewell Round Up

I hope you are surviving quarantine! I’ve been in Memphis for the last week, and it’s been wonderful having dogs to walk and bikes to ride. My mom and I have had fun trying new recipes and restaurants, takeout of course. We’ve also been treated by my brother’s great cooking.  What have you been doing to stay busy?

Madewell is always a go-to for classic spring and summer pieces. They always have easy dresses, great layering pieces and the best denim. Today, I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces of the season. Many are on sale too! Happy shopping!!

Hope you have a great Easter weekend, too!

No Bake Energy Ball Recipe

IMG_4099

No bake energy balls are one of my family’s favorite snacks, so I thought I would share this recipe with you. I think we’ve made them at least three times in quarantine. These energy balls only take about 10 minutes to make and include peanut butter, vanilla extract, honey, oats, flaxseed and chocolate chips – many ingredients you probably already have.

  1. 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  2. 1/2 cup creamy or crunchy peanut butter
  3. 1/3 cup honey
  4. 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (we use mini)
  5. 1/2 cup ground flaxseed
  6. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

IMG_4100

Once you have all of your ingredients in a bowl, mix them until they are combined.

IMG_4101

From there, you place them bowl in the refrigerator for the mixture to harden. Once hardened, you can roll the mixture into balls, size of your choice, and then they are ready to eat!

Tips for cleaning out your closet

DFW-Local-Freelance-Stylists

Now that we seem to have a little bit of time on our hands, let’s clean out our closets. Spring cleaning, quarantine edition! Below I’m going to share some of the questions I ask myself when I’m going through my closet. I hope this helps, and feel free to reach out with images of items you aren’t sure you should keep.

  1. Have you worn this item in a year? If no, time to get rid of it.
  2. Are you keeping something for sentimental reasons? I’m such a sentimental person. I can attach meaning to just about anything, but believe me, those items aren’t doing you any good just sitting in your closet. Let someone else enjoy them!
  3. Do you have items that are too big or too small? If it doesn’t fit, it’s time to move on.
  4. Is this item a classic piece? If so, it’s worth keeping. Examples: dark denim, plain sweaters, button up blouses.
  5. Do you have duplicates of this item? We don’t need multiples of the same piece!
  6. Do you feel good in this item? If not, time to toss!

Don’t know what to do with the items you aren’t keeping? Donate them to places like Goodwill or The Salvation Army. You can also take them to a consignment store, and they will sell your items for you. If you are wiling to put in a little work, sell them on Poshmark or other resell sites!

I hope this helps you purge your closet!

Loungewear

Well, it looks like we will be cooped up for awhile, so I thought I would share some of my favorite loungewear sets. Many come in multiple color ways, and some are also on SALE (one of my favorite words.) Be sure to click the links below to see what’s available!

What have y’all been doing to keep busy? Doing puzzles, playing games, starting new TV shows, going on walks at safe distances, of course? I need recommendations!
