Prints + Croc + Fur

| dress | vest | booties | headband | earrings |

I loving mixing textures and patterns, and in the fall, it’s so much easier to do this! We are naturally wearing many layers with more ways to mix and match.

These booties were a fan favorite last year, so the designer released them again this year – you’re in luck! I’m on my feet most of the day, and these pass the all day comfort test!! Super important in my book as I’m sure in yours. This dress is a new piece I picked up recently from an unexpected retailer. I decided to play with texture and color and layered this fur vest on top!

What unexpected combos can you create this week?! Combining different textures and patterns add interest to any look.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you had a fun Halloween weekend!

Ruffle Front Dress

| dress | booties | headband others: 1, 2, 3, 4 | earrings |

You know I can’t turn down a good ruffle, and on top of that, this dress reminds me of a Sea New York piece but for a third of the price! This is a great dress to wear now through the fall but to bring back out for spring and summer. The sleeves, fabric and color make it a versatile piece!

You also need to check out my fabulous new earrings by Hazen & Co! These earrings are another piece that can be dressed up and down and worn all year long. I find myself investing in items that I can get the most mileage out of, and these earrings are definitely worth the investment! Not to mention the designer and owner of Hazen is the most wonderful human.

Districtt: where your furniture dreams come true

I can’t believe I am now in my 4th year out of college. Honestly, it feels like just yesterday I was in high school but at the same time, a lifetime ago. Anyway, here I am – officially an adult and booted from my parent’s health insurance. Sigh.

It’s hard to get settled in the early years out of college. Roommates change, jobs change, cities change. I am now in my third home since graduating, and every apartment/duplex has looked very different.

The first year and a half out of college I had two roommates, and we lived in your typical young people’s apartment building. Pizza and beer always in the hallway. One roommate moved to a different part of town to be closer to work, so then my roommate, Margaret, and I were on the hunt for a two bedroom apartment. We were tired of the “lively” apartment scene, so we found ourselves living in a complex full of people over twice our age. Sounds lame, but it was the best! Just a couple of months ago, we moved for the third time because the owners of our place wanted to move back in. We packed up our things and moved into this adorable duplex near SMU. We are enjoying our new home and making it our own with the help of Districtt.

Districtt is a home furnishing subscription service tailored to young professionals who want the freedom to move frequently. Currently they serve Atlanta and Dallas with the hopes of expanding. As I’m sure you know, it can be hard to commit to purchasing furniture when you don’t know if it’s going to work in your future spaces or if you will even like it years to come.

This is where Districtt saves the day! They offer premium furniture that can be rented for however long you need, and friends, this is high quality stuff! I’m obsessed. I love that Districtt has such a curated selection of furniture and accessories. No matter what you choose, you will have a cohesive look that can turn a blank apartment into an elevated home.

Once you’ve submitted your order, Districtt will arrive on your specified day with white glove service to make sure all furniture is assembled and just the way you envisioned. They do the heavy lifting, hanging and debris removal too. And when the time comes to move again, Districtt will be there to remove your furniture, extend your subscription or swap it out for something different. You can even buyout the pieces you love without paying more than retail!

Margaret and I chose three Districtt pieces to complete our home. First, we chose the Malley Bar Cart because we had a goal of entertaining more. We’ve already put it to great use and look forward to many more parties!

Next we chose the Zana Loveseat because we wanted to round out our study. It’s the perfect place to drink your coffee in the morning or read a book. The room has so much natural light, so we are definitely drawn to sit here.

Lastly, I needed a new full length mirror, so I chose the Elaina Mirror which is super sleek. I love the gold trim and the light that bounces off of it from the windows in my room. Of course working in fashion, I need a space to review my outfits before leaving each day.

All in all, Districtt gives you the flexibility that most young people desire! We move, needs change and styles evolve. That is why I am so excited to share this company started by two fellow SMU alumni. If you head to their website now, you can get $100 off your first month of furniture!

I can’t wait to see what you choose! XO, MS

Dress + Sweater

| shirtdress: 1, 2, 3, 4 | sweater: 1, 2, 3, 4 | headband | mules: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |

I love creating new outfits with old pieces. Each piece I’m wearing has been in my closet for at least a year, and in fact, I think I’ve had this shirtdress for four. You can count on a classic piece like this dress or this sweater to never go out of style. Sometimes the classics are worth spending a little bit more money on so that you get a quality piece that will last you for seasons.

Camel Suede Jacket + Blue Jeans

| top | jeans | jacket | sneakers | headband | sunglasses | necklace |

You really can’t go wrong with blue jeans and a camel jacket or coat in the fall. They are such a classic and neutral combo. This jacket is a piece I picked up from Luxury Garage Sale a few years back, and it has been a staple in my wardrobe ever since. Because this jacket is no longer sold, I linked another camel suede option I love as well.

When shopping for great pieces, don’t forget to check out consignment stores because you never know what you might find! I got this jacket at a fraction of its original retail price.

Happy Monday, and thanks for stopping by! XO, MS

A Pink Printed Dress for Fall

| dress other color ways: 1, 2 | headband | sandals | earrings |

I envisioned wearing this fall dress with camel booties (these, these or these), but because it was 80 degrees in Houston the night I wore this dress, I opted for sandals. We got a glimpse of chilly weather yesterday, so I hope that means boots are in my future!

Do you prefer fall or summer clothes? I think I typically prefer summer because clothes are designed with such happy patterns and colors, but for some reason, I’m really itching to wear fall gear this year and leave the summer clothes behind.

P.S. You can grab these sandals on sale right now!!

Thanks for reading and happy weekend! XO, MS

Wedding Guest Dress

| dress: rent or buy | shoes | earrings | bra | curling iron |

This weekend was a blast! We had the best time celebrating the Brolliers, Henry’s mom and new husband, at Houston’s Bayou Club! It was a gift to have so many of his family members all in one room after months apart.

I wore this beautiful midi dress that was the perfect weight for this transitional weather. The deep v neck and the puffy sleeves made the dress perfectly feminine and just dressy enough for the event. I give this dress a 10/10 if you have a special event coming up!

Thanks for stopping by, and as always, you can find more of my outfits linked in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app!

The Proposal | 10.2.20

| dress | earrings | wedges |

Henry and I got engaged last Friday night, and we are just thrilled! He planned the most perfect weekend with family and friends from all over the country, and I walked away from the weekend feeling loved by all. In today’s blog post, I’m going to share how it all went down…

But first, I’m going to give you a little back story. Henry and I met freshman year on our way to church with a mutual friend. After that we became fast friends – studying together, going to basketball games and being each other’s date to formals. It wasn’t until the spring of our junior year that we started dating. Here we are 4.5 years later and engaged!

Henry proposed at SMU near the spot we first met. We walked up to an area on the boulevard covered in a blanket with flowers and champagne. He then gave me a letter to read. Of course it took me what felt like 20 minutes because I was so overwhelmed. I just couldn’t comprehend what was going on, so I had to reread many of the lines!! Sorry for the wait, Hank!

Also, shout out to his mom and sister for setting everything up!

THEN, he got down on one knee! This is something that Henry has jokingly done off and on throughout the years, but this time it was for real! When he opened the ring box, I couldn’t believe my eyes! It was SO beautiful.

We were both shaking when he put the ring on my finger, and I honestly don’t remember saying yes. He says I did : )

Next we took a few photos with the photographer that Henry had booked. This is one of many things I’m so glad he did. She captured our expressions throughout the entire proposal which has been so much fun to look back on!

Of course we had to pop the champagne!

This is the spot where we met.

Once we enjoyed a moment together, we headed back to my house where our families were waiting. We had hor d’oeuvres and celebrated with them! It was definitely a surprise seeing everyone there.

Another shoutout goes to my roommate, Margaret, for making our home look beautiful!

And of course Murphy had to be there!

After we enjoyed some time with our families, we headed to Katy Trail Ice House where many of our friends were waiting! THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN! I couldn’t get over how many of them had traveled to be with us for just a few hours.

THANK YOU friends and family for making all of this happen! We will surely remember this weekend forever.

I can’t wait to become Mrs. Shepherd May 15, 2021.

Plaid dress for fall

| dress | similar espadrilles | headband | similar earrings |

| bag: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 |

This is the perfect transitional dress to have in your closet! Wear it now with espadrilles and then with booties and a fur vest as temps drop. It has surprisingly been nice here in Dallas, and I sure hope this fall like weather continues. What are you most looking forward to wearing this season?! I can’t wait for all the boots and booties!

Thanks for stopping by, friends! XO, Mary Sanford
