Pops of Red and Blue

Can you tell I’m ready for spring? Hems are getting shorter as warm weather approaches. Yesterday, Henry and I went to the last SMU basketball home game of the season where red and blue is a must, so I completed this neutral look with a bright red bag and a red and blue headband. Sandals felt a bit premature, so I opted for a closed toe flat. Unfortunately, we blew a 24 point lead – seems to be a trend… Football season can’t get here soon enough!

Bright Colors for Spring

IMG_2756

It’s feeling more and more like spring everyday! Yesterday was absolutely stunning. There was not a cloud in the sky, and flowers were blooming everywhere. When I think of spring, I think of bright colors whether that’s in the clothes I wear, the flowers in bloom or the radiant sunshine overhead. I’m working on incorporating more color in my wardrobe this spring. As I invest in colors other than blue, I’m finding new outfit combinations to create just like this one. Unfortunately, I can’t link the items shown, but I’ve tagged similar ones.

Create your own brightly colored look by starting with the pieces linked above!

Transitions

The necklaces I wear hold meaning, and rarely do I take them off. I can’t help but be a sentimental person! My parents gave me the pearl necklace when I graduated from Christ Methodist Day School in the 6th grade. Then they gave me the diamond necklace for my high school graduation. I received the gold pendant from Henry our senior year at SMU, and I don’t think I’ve taken it off once. These pieces of jewelry mark special moments in my life and times of great transition.

Speaking of transitions – grab your favorite sweater, and pair it with a pleated skirt for the perfect transitional look. It may be February, but temps have been in the 70s here. Find the perfect balance with a sweater and skirt combo.

Frayed

Frayed edges are everywhere! Sweaters, jackets, denim. You name it! They are a must-have. These jeans combine a few of my favorite denim trends: the baby bootcut, side seam detailing and the released hem with frayed edges. This jean will be the perfect piece to take into spring and summer. The colors are fresh, and you can’t go wrong with a light wash! How should I style them for spring?

Once again, Sidney Hollingsworth is the best! I love the perspectives she embraces and the bright colors she captures. I got this blouse in New York a month ago at the Nordstrom Rack in Union Square. Like I’ve told y’all before, this Rack is one of the best, and I always find some amazing deals. Suede miniskirts are all over the place this season, so definitely a good piece to invest in, faux or real.

Spring it On

The majority of the outfits I put together on a regular basis mix brands, trends, and price points. You all know I love Zara, and you’ve probably realized by now that I also love nice things – don’t we all. If you don’t feel like committing to a trend, why not try it out by getting an inexpensive version. If you’re over it before the trend has even started, have no fear – you didn’t spend an arm and a leg. This blouse is from Zara, but you can find similar more expensive options on Shopbop and Revolve.

I’ve incorporated many of my favorite trends and pieces into this look. My coveted Old Navy denim vest goes with me everywhere, on every trip. I love ruffles and feminine details which are incorporated in both the blouse and pants. Lastly, gingham is one of my favorite patterns to wear. No matter if it’s small or bold, it makes a plain outfit not so plain.

I love adding a vest to almost every outfit. You can probably tell from my posts that vests occur in about every other one. I feel like a vest can pull together any outfit or dress down a dress. I styled it with a simple tee and distressed denim to make the outfit a little more special. Try adding a vest or two to your wardrobe, and you just might agree.
