You know red and blue are a favorite color combo of mine! You can celebrate America’s independence and cheer for the ponies at the same time. I see myself wearing this dress again on July 4th and then for an SMU football game this fall! Crossing my fingers that those still happen… I hope you add this fun summer dress to your closet!

Thanks for stopping by, friends! XO, MS

Headband or no headband? That is the question.

I couldn’t decide if I liked this outfit with or without the headband, so I shot both. What do y’all think? My mom told me it wasn’t necessary for me to wear a headband everyday (haha), so I’ve tried to mix things up over the last few weeks. She likes them, so this isn’t a dig at her! Last week I think I only wore a headband twice – that’s big for me. As you’ve seen over the last 8 months, they’ve become quite a staple in my wardrobe. Not only are they cute, but they also keep my hair out of my eyes while still being able to wear it down. Something that is hard to master when you have a lot of hair like me… What do y’all think? Should I take a break from headbands?

Accessorize with a brooch

Elevate your winter coat with a vintage brooch. You can find them at consignment stores, on Etsy and in your grandmother’s jewelry box, but don’t take before asking! I received this vintage Chanel brooch for Christmas, and I’ve had a lot of fun styling it. I haven’t worn brooches much until now, but I love how they can complete any outfit.

I bought this coat at Zara last weekend in Chicago, and of course I can’t find it online. I did link some other fabulous plaid coats, so you can recreate my look. Now is a great time to buy a coat because many are on sale! The booties were a Christmas gift from last year, so I can’t find them either.

Thanks for stopping by!

Transitions

IMG_1695

The necklaces I wear hold meaning, and rarely do I take them off. I can’t help but be a sentimental person! My parents gave me the pearl necklace when I graduated from Christ Methodist Day School in the 6th grade. Then they gave me the diamond necklace for my high school graduation. I received the gold pendant from Henry our senior year at SMU, and I don’t think I’ve taken it off once. These pieces of jewelry mark special moments in my life and times of great transition.

Speaking of transitions – grab your favorite sweater, and pair it with a pleated skirt for the perfect transitional look. It may be February, but temps have been in the 70s here. Find the perfect balance with a sweater and skirt combo.

The Sweater Dress

I don’t love wearing tons of layers. That’s why I will never survive somewhere that’s average winter temperature is in the 30’s. I can handle it on occasion but prefer the South’s mild winters.  This past weekend, my mom and I visited my brother in Chicago, and Lord have mercy!!! It was eight degrees when we landed. I had to buy a new coat because the one I brought (heaviest I own) wouldn’t suffice.

Last week in Dallas it dipped into the 30’s, and I immediately grabbed this cozy sweater dress. Call me crazy for having bare legs, but this beats the plaid skirt I wore everyday to school growing up. I layered this shearling lined denim jacket to bear the cold. This was the comfiest look for the coldest day!

Frayed

Frayed edges are everywhere! Sweaters, jackets, denim. You name it! They are a must-have. These jeans combine a few of my favorite denim trends: the baby bootcut, side seam detailing and the released hem with frayed edges. This jean will be the perfect piece to take into spring and summer. The colors are fresh, and you can’t go wrong with a light wash! How should I style them for spring?

Shine Bright

Happy humpday!! I’m featuring the ultimate groutfit today. I don’t usually wear gray jeans as I prefer to wear different shades of blue, but I’m loving the side-seam trend. I decided to give these a shot, and I’m so glad I did! I highly recommend investing in a pair of jeans with this detailing because they can make a simple outfit a little more fun. This cashmere sweater is right on trend with the star pattern and athleisure-style hood. I added my favorite bomber jacket and sneakers to top off this casual look.

I’ll wear these jeans into the spring with basic tees and feminine blouses. Add a sandal, and let the denim do the talking! What do you think about the side-seam trend and this monochromatic look? I’d love to get your feedback!

Tweed Please

IMG_0884

| top | skirt | vest | booties | handbag | sunglasses | brooch: 1, 2, 3 |

Today’s post is a combination of old pieces that I put together to create a new look. These are all classic pieces that you should keep in your wardrobe. A chambray top is something you can wear any season and with any bottom. The camel vest is the perfect layering item to complete all fall and winter outfits, adding style but not bulk. And of course, every girl must own a tweed skirt.

I did receive this vintage Chanel brooch for Christmas that I’m excited to style. Adding it to this outfit, completed the classic and timeless look.

Try creating a new outfit with old pieces this week! This will bring new life to your wardrobe.
